A 653/A 653M-05 Galvanized Cold Rolled CS Type A,B, & C Steels

Designations for Commercial Galvanized Cold Roll Steel: The American Standard for Cold Rolled Materials A 653/A 653M-05 defines some commercial hot dip galvanized steels with designations:

  • CS Type A
  • CS Type B
  • CS Type C

These steels have slight varying chemical and physical properties. Mainly there function i.e. protection of base steel against the environment is same.

The Chemical Composition: CS Type A is composed of 0.1 percent of Carbon, 0.6 percent Manganese, 0.03 percent Phosphorous, & 0.035 percent Sulphur. Remaining is Iron with other impurities. Zinc is coated on this composition of base steel.

CS Type B is founded of 0.02-0.15 percent of Carbon, 0.6 percent Manganese, 0.03 percent Phosphorous, & 0.035 percent Sulphur. Remaining is Iron with other impurities. Zinc is applied over this basic composition.

CS Type C is proportioned with 0.08 percent of Carbon, 0.6 percent Manganese, 0.1 percent Phosphorous, & 0.035 percent Sulphur. Remaining is Iron with other impurities. Zinc coating forms adjoining layers with the defined composition.

The Mechanical Properties of Commercial Steels in American Standard: American standard for hot dip galvanized steel unlike the Japanese standard defines the yield strength of the grades instead the tensile strength. The yield strength is bit more relevant physical parameter for commercial steels because the above steels are subjected to forming processes and they are opted for forming. The yield strength ranges from 170 to 410 MPa of the above four material designations. The elongation of these materials is greater than or equal to 20 percent.  The typical values of hardness are expressed in HRB from 45 to 70.
