Askania – Coiling Strip Centering Device

Many have heard about the famous Askania brand for watches in Germany but here in this article the discussion is about another less heard but important industrial device i.e. Askania used in the manufacturing industry. Askania is a device used to center the recoiling strip comprising of two sensors or watchful eyes that make sure the strip remains centered during the process of recoiling.

Or in the case slitter the same device Askania is used but here the definition changes a bit i.e. electronic watchful sensors that’s tracks strip passing via trimmers placed at the sides. This Askania is a very important device in the rolling mills as well. Due to this sensing device the strip uncoiling and recoiling activity pass through the mills is possible without any deviation or accident.

Strip-Centering-Device

Impact of Center-off on Mills: Imagine what will happen in a running mill where the coil is uncoiling at one end and pass through the mill and then recoiling at the other end. If the strip deviates from the center there can be a major accident or catastrophe during the running mill. May be because of the strip going off the center the production line has to be stopped, the mill can be damages and the recoiling activity is stopped because of the strip breakage due to going off through center.

Impact of Center-off on Slitter: Similarly on a slitting line if the strip goes away from the center or the strip surpasses the width allowed on trimming at the side, the other side of the strip will be left with variable edges due to shortening and strip shifting to one side. The whole effected strip will then be a sell out in scrap.
